Facebook Continues to Expand its Video Marketing Efforts

Facebook Video has been expanding at a feverish pace in the last couple years. Recently, Facebook made the decision to take Watch global, opening up more opportunities to marketers and video creators.

Furthermore, ad breaks are now available to Pages with more than 10,000 followers and that have generated more than 30,000 one-minute video views in the last two months. Sure, that’s a few humps to jump through but for those have access to it, that’s a lot of reward that can be tapped into for brands willing to take their efforts there.

Ad Breaks is currently available in the US, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia. Ideally, it’s something we hope to see global, like Watch, in a matter of a year or so. Facebook’s Creator Studio has also been released globally. Creator Studio is a video management tool used to see performance metrics. The ability to see metrics like this and to have the capacity to monetize video via Facebook is similar to what YouTube has been able to do through its platform. There are opportunities here that exist both as advertisers and producers of video content.

As advertisers, the opportunity to partner with brands and gain access to Facebook Video’s platform can help reach whole new audiences. Each in-stream ad unit is scheduled to run only fifteen seconds long. This may be another social media advertising channel to evaluate alongside influencer marketing and PPC campaigns.

As creators of video, the Creators Studio tool gives more insight into who is watching your video, from where in the world they’re tuning in, and how much you may be earning off views. Analytics like these can be highly valuable in creating further video content, especially if your brand is based around delivering video direct o consumer.

In the last year, Facebook has been working hard at building its own network of video creators similar to YouTube’s network. They’ve also been promoting video heavily to advertisers, attempting to drum up attention and press. Though it remains to be seen how far Facebook gets as a video platform, so far the numbers are promising. More than 50 million people in the United States alone watch at least one minute of Facebook Video every month. Also, the amount of time spent on Facebook Video has increased by 14 overs over since the beginning of 2018. Moving forward, we may begin to see Facebook grow its own crowd of influencers similar to Instagram and YouTube. This aspect of ‘influencer marketing’ is something that has been lacking on Facebook. As the platform opens itself to more marketing opportunities, it’ll be interesting to see where things stand a year down the line.

If you are looking at engaging in social media marketing, Facebook certainly has some very unique opportunities ahead. There’s also similar marketing channels found via Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and through other social media platforms. There are millions of consumers out there, potentially ready to connect with your brand. As the experts in digital marketing, we look forward to what’s ahead in the land of social media.
