Top Highlights from the Consumer Electronics Show 2018 that will Amaze You!
Throughout the Consumer Electronics Show 2018 in Las Vegas this past January, numerous products and designed were released to the public for the first time from some of the world’s biggest brands in tech. As CES 2018 has now wrapped, we look back on some of the biggest highlights that are sure to amaze consumers long after they hit the general marketplace later this year.
LG’s ThinQ lineup
As more brands hit the market with smart home accessories and smart speakers, the world’s biggest brands have been put on alert. The impressive ThinQ smart speaker from LG boasts an assistant that will deliver the weather, oversee other smart home devices, and comes with a range of accessories, including the ability to interface with other LG smart appliances and products. For example, the ThinQ smart refrigerator from LG can display recipes on its 29-inch touchscreen display.
Vivo’s fingerprint scanner
Android implemented fingerprint scanners into their newest phones on the back, while Apple has chosen to ignore fingerprint scanning altogether and instead has gone with facial recognition for its phones. At CES 2018, Vivo revealed its own fingerprint scanner embedded underneath the front display. Though Vivo hopes to be the first to market with this tech, Samsung may in fact beat them to it, if predictions hold true.
The Garmin fitness and music watch
The Garmin watch is one of Apple Watch’s closest competitors, bringing together music, fitness, and payment capabilities all in one flawless design. Specifically targeting the fitness market, for anyone passionate about hitting the gym, cycling, swimming, or running, the Garmin is a wearable worthy of consideration.
Google fires back at Amazon
At CES 2018, the promise of the Google Assistant and a range of smart home tech devices put Google back in the game against Amazon. Amazon’s Alexa still holds the top spot in the marketplace however these announcements put the Google Assistant not far behind.
Designing a more fashionable smartwatch
Though wearables, including smartwatches, have not caught on as many had hoped, most have pointed to a lack of style and fashion as a reason. Kate Spade and Fossil are among the biggest brands seeking to update smartwatch designs into something more luxurious. See new features such as a weather effects dial and a customizable watch face, which further develops the growing Android wearables market.
Kohler smart mirror
Kohler, a major brand name in kitchen and bathroom manufacturing, announced at CES 2018 its first smart mirror which has Alexa built in already. Control the lights, speak with Alexa, and do it all while rinsing off in the shower if need be. For this innovation, Kohler was given a CES 2018 innovation award.
Wireless virtual reality experience
Prior to this year, VR headsets had to be connected to a computer in order to function, in addition to seeing critiques on affordability and difficulty in setting up. For the first time, at CES 2018, significant advancements were revealed to have been made with VR. Lenovo is introduced its first wireless VR headset, HTC promoted a headset with 78 percent higher resolution ensuring a more crisp display, and Vive introduced a specially designed ergonomic, headset that is sure to please its fans.
